Frequently Asked Questions
We ask that parents label all clothing that comes into school. If an item goes missing, your child must inform their class teacher.
We can ask other parents to look out for the item if it was took by mistake but school will not replace the item.
We only allow Year 5 and Year 6 children to walk to and from school without a grown up. If you wish for your Y5/6 child to walk alone we do need permission and would need telling each time this will occur or if any changes to usual arrangements are made. You can contact the teacher through Dojo.
Yes, your child can cycle to school. We have a bike rack available on the KS2 playground.
All bicycles are left at own risk and we recommend using a bike lock. We are unable to provide bike locks.
All gates and doors open at 8.35am and close at 8.45am. Please go to the relevant office if you arrive after this time.
End of day all gates and doors open at 3.15pm.
Click here to view our School Day page.
If you arrive late for school you will need to report to the relevant office to gain access to the school - we have a separate Foundation office further down Harrowby Road for Nursery & Reception pupils.
Pupils and parents/carers are encouraged to make every effort to arrive at school on time and ensure pupils are collected on time as lateness can be very disruptive to both the child and their class.
Instances of lateness after 9.15am may be unauthorised. Persistent lateness may be met with Education Welfare involvement.
If your child will not be in school due to illness you must inform the school office before 9.15am. You can do this in a variety of ways; telephone us after 8.30am, leave a voicemail message at any time, report the absence via dojo or send us an email to info@sandonprimary.org.uk
Please keep us informed of your child's absence, updating us each day they are absent.
Generally, children should return to school when they feel well enough to. If your child has a sickness bug they must return to school 48 hours after their last bout.
For other illnesses, please telephone the school office team who will check incubation periods and advise further.
Unfortunately, children do sometimes become unwell or have accidents whilst they are at school and we may need to call you.
It can cause a child distress if we are unable to contact you in these circumstances. Therefore, please ensure that we always have at least 2 up-to-date contacts on our system.
Yes. The medicine must be prescribed by a doctor and be labelled by the pharmacy. Our medicine administration window is between 12.00pm and 1.00pm, please work your timings around this.
In order for us to administer medicine, parents must complete the relevant form and return to the school office.
Please do not send medicine in to school in your child's bag.
Yes. Sandon runs a breakfast club from 7.30am and an after school club until 5.00pm. Visit the Care Club page for more information.
In the first instance, we ask that you speak to your child's class teacher. They spend the most time with your child and will be able to assist you with most matters. If you still have concerns, please speak to the school office who can arrange for you to speak to a Senior Leader.
The class teacher can be contacted via your dojo account.
If you have a concern of a safeguarding or wellbeing nature, you can contact the welfare team - for more information, click here.
If we have to take the decision to close the school (e.g. bad weather), the information will be communicated to parents via Class Dojo.
Please ensure that you have your dojo notifications turned on so that you get alerts as soon as they are sent!
Limited parking for visitors is available on the car park at the front of the school - however, this carpark is closed at the start and end of the day for safety reasons, so you may be asked to wait until it is safe to exit or until you can be escorted off site.
Please note that the postcode for this side of school is different to our postal address.
Parking postcode: ST3 7AN
School meals can be purchased on an ad-hoc basis. All your child needs to do is let their teacher know that they would like a meal and then choose what they would like in class from the available options. Please ensure the payment of £2.40 is already paid in advance on Parent Pay.
Don't forget that children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 do not need to pay for meals and any children in receipt of benefits related Free School Meals.
If you think you are entitled to benefits related FSM's - head over to our school meals page where you will find the link to apply online.
You can find more information on what the Sandon uniform is by clicking here.
All Sandon pupils swim weekly during the school day. Private lessons - outside of the school day - are ran by Water Stars and can be booked by contacting them directly.
If you are a private pool user and need to make contact about lost kit etc. please contact Water Stars.
Where possible, we try to accomodate other schools, however; there are limited slots available around Sandon swim times. For more information on school swimming bookings, please click here.
Sandon is oversubscribed in many year groups. Please contact the school office to enquire about the procedure and visit the admissions page for more information.

If someone else is collecting your child, you would need to make the school aware of this. If this is their first time collecting, you will be asked to provide a 'code word' so we can verify who they are on their arrival.
You can contact the teacher via dojo or telephone the school office. Please make every effort to do this before 2.30pm to allow us the time to ensure the messages are delivered to class.
Always inform us so that we can reassure your child that everything is ok. Please telephone the school office and provide an ETA. We ask that you try to get these messages to us as early as possible to allow time for the message to be delivered to class. Phone calls at home time can make it difficult to convey in time.
After school club can be used if you know you won't be on time and have let us know in advance (Care Club booking details can be found here). Otherwise, late collection fees apply (more details can be found on our policies page).
We are a predominantly cashless school that uses Parent Pay to take payments. For more information, click here.

The school has a disabled toilet accessible from the main entrance.
All locations are accessible via ramp entry/exit outside of the school building either at the front or rear of the site.
For specific details if required, please contact the school office who can advise the best access for you.
