Swimming at Sandon

Sandon has its own state of the art teaching & learning pool.

We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn essential swimming skills and stay safe in and around water. That’s why we (via Water Stars) provide a 40-minute swimming lesson every week for all school pupils.

These lessons are designed to; teach vital water safety and swimming skills, encourage a healthy and active lifestyle & inspire lifelong participation in swimming. By making swimming accessible and enjoyable, we’re helping children build confidence, stay fit, and develop skills that last a lifetime.

Lessons are designed to instill the highest standard of swimming in a positive, safe and enjoyable environment. Children can work through the carefully designed swimming award scheme achieving certificates and awards throughout the school year.

At Sandon  we encourage not only the development of swimming skills but for all children to adapt a responsible attitude to water safety.

National Curriculum Requirement

In Key Stage 2, we assess all pupils against the National Curriculum requirement. At the end of Key Stage 2 children must;

  • Swim 25m competently, confidently & proficiently

  • Perform a safe self-rescue in different water based situations

  • Use a range of strokes effectively, for example front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
