Year 5 have been working really hard during their computing lessons, they have learned what a search engine is, how search engines work, the difference between the internet and the World Wide Web and how to spot if a website is real or fake!
Did you know? Goggle, Bing, Yahoo and Ask Jeeves are all search engines that sort your data! They record links you click on and then use this information to guess your user profile ( Are you male, female, young or old) but their are other search engines you could use that don't.
Year 5 have learned that Duck Duck Go and IX Quick are 2 search engines that do not record your activity and that by using these search engines you may end up with different results.
How do search engines work? Ask Year 5, they will be happy to explain all about web crawlers and how they use an index of information and a ranking system to find you the most relevant websites.
Take a look at what we have been up to.
