Reading

At Sandon we want to encourage children to have a genuine love of language and the written word.

We aim to equip children with essential, transferable reading skills through an enriched and engaging curriculum where reading is at its heart. Children will learn to read accurately and fluently with secure understanding through a consistent approach to teaching reading that closes the attainment gap. As well as teaching our children to read, we foster a love of reading by listening to and interacting with a variety of literature, non-fiction and poetry. We also work to build a community of readers by using various methods to engage parents.

We ensure that children read within and outside of reading lessons; where they can read for a wide range of purposes reading for practice, reading for meaning and reading for pleasure.
